They Called Me The Day She Died

They called me the day she died

I don’t know why They’d made it clear

years before I wasn’t family

anymore

They’d attacked me

The last time we met

Grabbed my arms

Twisted hard Made me drop my phone

Stepped on it So I couldn’t call for help

They called me the day she died

I don’t know why. I didn’t want to talk I already knew she had gone I texted, “Send me the details.

Sorry for your loss.”

I couldn’t go to the funeral

They’d be there They would cause a scene

I couldn’t do that to her

Couldn’t make her death

About me

They called me the day she died

I don’t know why. I stared at my phone until the buzzing stopped

She had been my Island cove in a stormy sea

Her house, my sanctuary

She was the last family

Who actually loved me

They called me the day she died
